Calling all moms!

E3 has been on antibiotics for 5 days now.. and I think he's ingested almost one full dose... total.

Anyone have any new ideas on how to make a toddler take their medicine?

I've tried forcing it down his throat, most of it ends up on his chest, or me, or the wall.

I've tried hiding it in chocolate milk and smoothies.

I've tried bribery.

I just mixed some in a tablespoon of chocolate frosting, no deal.

Ugh!

Waiting...

E1 had her very first sleep-over on Monday night. I saw that her friend was a little tired after she arrived, but didn't think much of it. Just after the girls went to bed, E1 comes running into my office saying that her friend was throwing up. Poor girl. I cleaned her up, tried to reach her father on the phone, no luck.
So, she spent the night on the sofa with a bucket in front of her. She was much better in the am with only one vomiting incident during the night. Still couldn't reach her father in the morning. Eventually, her father received the messages when he left his apartment (poor cell service and no land line). He felt horrible that his daughter became sick at our house, but I reassured him that it wasn't a big deal, it wasn't the first, or last, time that I'll need to nurse a sick kid through the night.
Hopefully, E1's next sleep-over experience is a bit more fun.
Thankfully, the mattress pad on the bed was impervious to liquid, so the mattress wasn't ruined, whew! Just a bunch of nasty laundry, yuk. I almost puked myself when I was doing the laundry.
So, we're waiting for the incubation period to be over in case the virus was transferred to the E's. fun. can't. wait.

Wednesday...

It's Wednesday... I think... the last few days are a blur.
This bug we had was worse than we thought it was going to be.
Monday night, we were in urgent care for E2 and E3. They couldn't even drink water without vomiting it right back up. E3 puked in the waiting room.. on me... missed the bowl we brought with.
They've both improved greatly, but both are very tired. E2 slept all day yesterday and all night. E3 is quietly playing on the living room floor. Not the usual running around the house with limitless energy.
Last night I slept in my bed, without my blankets, because E1 had puked all over them, and her sister last night. It was the first time I slept in my bed since Saturday night.
Stuntman is currently sleeping. He went from the war to the stomach flu... not a good trade.

On other news...
Stuntman was very impressed and touched by the welcome he and the other soldiers received at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport when they arrived. He said it was amazing. Thanks DFW! The USO Girls are at DFW, check out their blog if you haven't before. Thanks Jamie, Lindsay and, Caroline!

Emma has turned out to be a great little dog. She does bark at Stuntman now and then, but snuggles with him on the sofa... she can't make up her mind. She is amazing with the kids... VERY tolerant and no food aggression whatsoever. She gets along great with our dogs and the neighbor's dog. She can weasel her little body out of the yard, but stays in the front yard. We need to work on the escaping.
Still not quite sure what mix of breeds she is. The vet said she was a "cute composite". Maybe pit bull, corgi, dachshund?

Hopefully, we can begin the kids R&R to-do list tomorrow. They want to go to Disneyland, Legoland, the beach, and the snow while Daddy is home.

Sleep-deprived #2

I haven't been to bed yet. It's 8 am. I think I'll be up all day.
Starting last evening, all 3 E's began puking. Then whatever was in them decided to escape the other direction as well.
I've been comforting kids, changing jammies (mine and the kids, multiple, multiple times), and doing laundry all night.
E2 looks as if she is over it, and E1 and E3 have both improved. There's a little break in the action right now.

I am so glad that I'm not a single parent this time. Not a great welcome home for Stuntman, but I'm glad he's here.

Back to "normal"

Normal, whatever that is...
I didn't think I'd make it through the day. I awoke with a nasty migraine today. It is nearly impossible to feed/clothe tiny kiddos when you have a migraine, but it got done... somehow, mainly with my eyes closed. By 10 am, the migraine was just a tingle and I was back to the land of the living... so much cleaning to do, but I just started, didn't go crazy or anything.
Today, E2 found her ACU uniform and put it on. She wanted to make sure that it fit so she could wear it to go pick up Daddy at the airport. Stuntman has leave in less that 2 months, so she is getting a little excited. Hopefully time will fly by until then.
Since the kids and I have been sick most of the week, they are getting a bit of cabin fever. They are driving me batty.
E3 is feeling better and has returned to his usual routine of dumping stuff on the floor, flushing things down the toilet, and running around without his diaper (he's figured out velcro, on to duct tape).
E1 goes back to school next week. She began work on her science fair project. She was doing something with Chocolate Chip, but he died, so she's using Roxie the dog now. Seeing if there are different foods that they prefer, her idea. Not bad for a 2nd grader. She's been learning charts and graphs at school, so she plans on doing a lot of those. I'm one of the parents that insist she does her own work... I don't touch a thing. It's pretty obvious which students have more than just "guidance". I'll help her organize her thoughts a bit, but it is amazing what kids can do if you just let them do it.
Looking forward to a nice, rainy weekend!

Change of plans

Right about now, I should be posting beautiful photos of the Rose Parade floats from the after-parade viewing...but I'm not. We missed it this year. The day began by waking at 3 am with a congested toddler. After going to bed an hour later, I awoke at 6 am with a fever of 101 myself, again for day 2 :( We all had that stomach-flu thing just before Christmas, then we were well for a couple days, then this nasty cold/flu that we all have. E3 is currently on antibiotics, and eye drops since the infection spread to his eyes... spent 3 hours at urgent care on Sunday, yuk.
Chocolate Chip the hamster was very sick this morning too, we brought him to the vet, but he didn't recover. He is now buried next to Snowflake. Three pets have passed away since Stuntman left, and he never even met two of them :(
We are done with hamsters.
The girls were not surprised, a little sad, but not surprised, when Chocolate Chip died. They realize that hamsters don't live long. We thought about adopting a cat, but we don't think Sparky or Roxie would like that much. They've never met a cat face to face, and at their ages, I don't think it's a good time to start. The only cat they know is the neighbors... the one that sits just out of their reach on the other side of the fence and cleans itself, stretches and ignores the dogs as they bark frantically at it...evil cat. We're keeping our eyes open for a young, small dog to add to our family.
I think the schedule that I was keeping finally caught up with me. I rarely get sick, but the last few months, I have caught everything that the kids have brought home.
I don't usually do New Year's resolutions, but this year I resolve to get more sleep. It's taking a toll on my body... I need more that 5 hours a night. I'm not sure how I will be able to do my job, take care of the kiddos and the house, but I'll figure out something.

Lots and lots of laundry

It seems to be that I didn't have food poisoning after all.
Just as I was going to bed at midnight, E1 started complaining of a stomachache. (I was concerned since none of the kids ate much at dinner). Shortly after, E3 awoke to a puddle of puke. My night consisted of taking care of those two and doing a ton of laundry.
Somehow, (knocking on wood here) E2 seems to be fine after a bit of an upset stomach at dinner.
They all seem to be on the mend, and I recovered just in time. Grandma is sick now too, and sleeping. Hopefully we will be good as new for the weekend.
I spoke to the mother of E1's best friend at school, seems that she had it on Wednesday... going around.
Time to put in another load of laundry...

Not.Fun.

I think someone tried to kill me…
or maybe it was just food poisoning.
I spent most of my 18 hour fast kneeling on the bathroom floor.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Thank Goodness, Grandma is visiting to keep an eye on the kids.
