As I was walking around Target yesterday, searching for the items on my list while trying to keep E3 in the shopping cart, I ran into a family that I know. I see and talk to the wife often, but haven’t spoken to the husband for months.
Of course, he asks if Stuntman is still “over there” in a whisper, as if saying “Iraq” would be profane. I say “yes”, and add that he is due home soon for R&R for a couple weeks before returning to complete the mission.
The husband makes the statement “maybe then that will be it and it will be over when the new administration is in”
What!?!
I didn’t reply… I didn’t have the energy to state how I really felt. Did he forget that it is a volunteer Army? That Stuntman reenlisted well after this war was underway? That we believe in what we’re doing, and would do it again?
I could write on and on… but I don’t even have the energy for that right now.

This is something that drives us crazy. When people ask when my husband is deploying and I tell them, they always say "Well, maybe when our new president is in, things will change." HELLO! He enlisted in 2005! We knew what was going on and he joined because he believed it was the right thing to do. Nothing drives me more crazy. I could go on and on about all the hypocrites that I know, but I won't.
I'm following your rules and I'm going to behave. I know just what you mean and we all have it. *all the not nice things here* Hang in there girl.
The only thing I can say is to add my "hang in there," as well.
Maybe it helps to know there are many more than a few of us who "get it."
I hate when I get comments like that. I feel like its undermining the decision that my husband made, let alone all the other men and women in uniform. That and sometimes you just dont have it in you to "debate" with some people.
