Wrong number

Two nights in a row, I've received a misdialed call.
They were AT&T collect calls. The caller didn't state a name, just "pick up" or "it's me", like the person they were calling was expecting their call.
I wasn't expecting calls, so I refused the charges and hung up the phone.
The calls originated from LA Mens Central Jail.
I hope some guy isn't using his one phone call to call a wrong number every night.
I wonder if I'll receive another call tonight.

What? You don't want convicts calling you for a quick chat? I really think you need to be more open minded...

actually, after I refused the call the first night, I thought "Oh No, what if it's someone that I know?" The next morning I did call those of my family that would be most likely to have called from jail... and it wasn't them. I didn't say my reason for calling :)

Now there's a statement I wouldn't touch with the proverbial ten-footer! :-)

It is a scam whereby convicts random dial, pretend to be someone you know to get you to accept the call. If you do accept the call they can then keep the line open after you hang up to make other calls which will be billed to your number.
Tried to tell you this last night but I can't figure out my URL, so will be Anonymous.

The anonymouse poster beat me at telling you this. Don't ever accept calls from a jail unless you truly know the person calling you. What a crazy world we live in!

Yep. And, the WORST part, in my state these phones can be owned by private companies (used to work for a guy who had this as one of his investments) where they can charge WHATEVER they want, to you, for having accepted the calls. Eeks!
